What way to start a foodie blog than with a recipe for some Wake Me Up Oats, so lets get into this, shall we!

Wake Me Up Oats

These are great for first thing in the morning or whenever you really want a quick treat to fill you up & pick you up at the same time.

Ingredients

  • 130g Oats
  • 3.5g Instant Coffee (crushed to fine powder)
  • 1.5g Cinnamon
  • 1 Mug milk

How To Steps

Step 1 - Prep the ingredients

Using kitchen scales weigh out the required amounts Grab either a pestle and mortar or a plastic sandwich bag and ensure the coffee is as fine a powder as you can make it

Step 2 - Add to Jar

Add all the dry ingredients to a large jar, like one that had a pasta sauce in it previously. Put on the lid and swirl everything around

Leave for 10 min

Step 3 - Heat milk

Method 1 - The Microwave way

Put the milk in the microwave for 2 minutes on high heat Once that has finished, add milk into jar & stir everything together. Leave to bind for 30min-1hr, stirring every 10min (optionally leave overnight)

Method 2 - The pan way

Put the milk in a pan and heat for 2-5 minutes on medium heat Once that has finished, add milk into jar & stir everything together. Leave to bind for 30min-1hr, stirring every 10min (optionally leave overnight)

Step 4 - Go for a wash

If at home & if you have one, get in the shower, as one helps wake you up. (Unless you are doing this overnight - then sleep wake up and then get in the shower) If not and if you are brave enough, have a cool bath, or a dip in an open and clean water source.

Step 5 - Get your body ready for the day

Perhaps nip to the shop, or go for a quick walk/bike round the block Or chuck on some music and get your body moving to a beat that wakes you up (I’ll publish a playlist to some Wake Me Up tracks later)

Step 5 - Heat again

Firstly, make sure to stir everything again. Then choosing one of the below, heat your oats up again.

Method 1 - Rolling Boil Method

If you are already going to be using the hob for other things, perhaps boiled eggs for later on in the day, then add your jar into the boiling water with the lid still on.

Method 2 - Nuke it!

Put your jar in the microwave heating it for about 3 minutes with stops every 30 seconds or so to stir.

Step 6 - Enjoy

That’s all that’s needed to enjoy some Wake Me Up Oats. Whether you are at home, or out on a camp out. They do the job of waking you up.

Optionally, you could replace the instant coffee with a shot or two of your favourite blend of ground coffees, or replacements for coffee like mushroom based coffees & already have a long long list of them that I wanna try switching out as part of research I am doing into getting myself into an optimal flow state each day.

Comments

We’ve not added comments for this site yet as it’s on the to-do-list but rest assured I’ll add a mechanism for them soon enough. Hope you enjoy your Wake Me Up Oats as much as I do!
