Recipe-002: The Meatless Carbageddon Stew

Ryan Yateshead chef & head kookerino

Software Engineer & Webmaster with a passion for cooking and sharing knowledge. I love to experiment with new recipes and techniques in the kitchen, and I enjoy creating content (mostly written content) about my culinary adventures.

This was thrown together today whilst doing some changes to this site and the theme on my main blog site.

Having multiple sites that are using different versions of theme & backend platform version is a common practice for testing out features. I’m currently in a phase of trying to standardise these on the same versions - hence this site looks different than maybe last time you came here (if you’ve ever been here before that is)

The Meatless Carbageddon Stew

This is a “throw it in and see” of leftovers and other things that I had in the kitchen.

In total this will last for at least 7 servings & as you’ll see from the Ingredients list, it’s not like it’s anything really special.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes
  • Onion
  • Carrots
  • Tomatoes
  • Tomato Puree
  • Tikka Curry Powder
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Tumeric
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Chinese 5 Spice
  • Paprika
  • Long Grain White Rice
  • Fuseli
  • Chicken Instant Noodles
  • Water

The Process

Quarter the onions & potatoes, slice the carrots and chuck them in a large enough pan & bring it up to the boil. Here you could replace the water for any stocks that you may have. A chicken/duck or beef/lamb would be my preferences over plain water based, but I didn’t have anything to make it any more interesting than this.

Once this has done, turn the heat down to simmer, grab your hand blender, and blend, blend, blend.

Once it’s in a mostly a blended state, start adding your 'erbs und spieces as Uncle Roger aka Nigel NG would say use feeling & the right amount, not the white amount making sure you are stirring well as not to clump up your spices.

At this point, chuck in your tube of tomato puree, and tin of chopped tomatoes.

Add in rice, fuseli & the chicken instant noodles & be sad that this meal contains no meat.

Leave for a few hours, taking care to stir every so often.

Enjoy. Or at least try to without the weaping to urself that this was missing vital ingrediants to be of any real decent taste. Next time I make something like this I hope to instead use some stocks over water, and have some meat in there too.

Not the best I’ve ever made. But it will do for a few days, that’s for sure, luckily I don’t get bored of repeat eating things.

The next on the list to bring you, will be something, well, lets just say, very different.

Dunna Choke on your Food now, eh?

Until next time!
